BARCELONA - Catalunya

At the Sagrada Familia

The origins of Barcelona
The origins of the city of Barcelona, which have been defined thanks to archaeological remains and literary and cartographic sources, date from the 1st century A.D., when the Romans established a small colony around the Taber mount.
Language
In Barcelona, the official languages are Catalan and Castilian. The two languages coexist in a bilingual situation similar to that found in many other parts of the world.
Political Organization
Barcelona, as a city in the Spanish state, is hierarchically subject to the terms of the Spanish Constitution and as the capital of Catalonia to the principles established by the Statute of Autonomy of Catalonia.
